Helen Hunt Jackson's Palm Springs
Star |
One of the greatest
honors in Southern California and the Coachella Valley is being
awarded a Star in the sidewalk in Palm Springs. |
On April 16, 2025,
at 3:00 PM, Helen Hunt Jackson was honored
with the
477th Star in the Palm Springs Walk of the Stars;
|
Joining luminaries
including President Gerald Ford, Shirley Temple, General
George Patton, Mary Pickford. Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe,
Truman Capote, Loretta Young, Frank Sinatra, and many
others. |
Helen Hunt Jackson
was honored both for her literary legacy as the first and only
woman writer in California to be honored with a Literary
Landmark; but also for her lifelong dedication advocating for
fair treatment and civil rights for all Native Americans.

Her novel RAMONA,
published in 1884, was the best selling book
in the 19th Century. |
RAMONA was made into 5 feature films and was made into
an outdoor play in Hemet, CA, where it
holds the record for the largest and
the longest running outdoor play in US history.
