New York Philharmonic Opens 2010–11 Season with

Opening Night Gala and Concert  Wednesday, September 22

The New York Philharmonic opened its 169th season with an Opening Night Gala and concert on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Avery Fisher Hall (65th Street and Broadway).

There were 860 guests
and the black-tie affair raised over $2,630,000.

 

Judith M. and Russell L. Carson and Carol Sutton Lewis and William M. Lewis, Jr. served as this year’s Gala Chairmen. The Gala’s Executive Vice Chairmen were Paul Calello and Jane DeBevoise, Agnes and Gerald L. Hassell, and Mark A. Hayek. The Opening Night Gala was presented by Breguet and was generously underwritten by BNY Mellon, Judith M. and Russell L. Carson, and Credit Suisse.

Music Director Alan Gilbert conducted the New York Philharmonic in the U.S. Premiere of Wynton Marsalis’s Symphony No. 3, Swing Symphony, a New York Philharmonic Co-Commission, performed jointly by the Philharmonic and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The Orchestra also performed R. Strauss’s Don Juan and Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphoses on Themes
