A beautiful panoramic view of New York City, an A-list
international crowd, and an intimate classical music
performance were
the key ingredients in a recipe for success for the 3rd
Annual American Vietnamese Friendship Organization (AVFO)
Event.
Barry Cohen, businessman and philanthropist and wife Yvonne
graciously hosted Chau-Giang Thi Nguyen "Chosan" and Brian
Grazer. Chosan, founder of the AVFO and beau, Brian Grazer,
brought along the Imagine Entertainment creators from
Hollywood; Ron Howard and Michael Rosenberg. The diversity
of AVFO’s supporters in attendance was widespread: Greydon
Carter, MTV’s Tom Freston, stock guru Jim Cramer, Veronica
and Ray Kelly (NYPD Police Commissioner) among many other
dignitaries.
The eclectic mix of elite people was a ‘melting pot’ of
minds and talents joined together with a common goal, the
final ingredient,
to help Chosan fulfill her dream to raise money to buy music
instruments for underprivileged but gifted students at The
Hanoi
School of Music and Fine Arts, where she began her studies
at the age of 8. Chosan continued her studies in New York at
The
Julliard School and Manhattan School of Music. Sharing a
heartfelt memory from her childhood, Chosan said, “I began
playing
on an old Gavo-French piano with missing keys and worn ivory
that I received after the war ended.
Mozart 's Sonata kept us living; it was the melody of a new
beginning. I want to help talented musicians in Vietnam to
fulfill
their dreams. Tonight’s music is symbolic of the friendship
between Vietnam and America." Chosan brilliantly performed
Rachmaninoff and Liszt, ending with one of her own
compositions. An added treat was a surprise performance by
the accomplished
cellist Yoev Nir, who will be playing with The Israeli
Symphony.
