Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU)
warmed a frigid February night with its
2026 TRU Love Benefit, CHANGING
HEARTS…
the power of theater, at Green Room
42 in Manhattan.
Despite sub-zero temperatures, a nearly
full house gathered on
February 8 to celebrate Tony-winning
legend Tonya Pinkins and Broadway
producing power couple Bonnie Comley
and Stewart F. Lane.
Pinkins received the TRU
Humanitarian Award, which recognizes
her as an uncompromising advocate for
change who has used her art in a
lifelong pursuit of equality and
acceptance.
Bonnie Comley and Stewart Lane
were honored with the
TRU Spirit of Theater Award for
their visionary leadership and for
co-founding BroadwayHD, the
streaming platform dedicated to
expanding global access to live theater.
Directed and created by Jonathan S.
Cerullo, with music direction by
Clare Cooper, the afternoon featured
musical tributes t
o the honorees’ careers.
Selections included highlights from
Comley and Lane’s Tony-winning
productions La Cage aux Folles, The Will
Rogers Follies, Thoroughly Modern
Millie, and A Gentleman’s Guide
to Love & Murder.
Pinkins was celebrated with songs
from her Broadway journey, including
Jelly’s Last Jam and Caroline, or
Change, and the program concluded
with a powerful monologue from A
Raisin in the Sun.
The event also honored the memory of
producer Jack W. Batman.
Guests enthusiastically raised pledge
paddles to support TRU’s programs
and scholarships for emerging BIPOC
producers, reaffirming the
organization’s commitment to nurturing
the next generation of theater artists.
