INNER-CITY SCHOLARSHIP FUND RAISES
MORE THAN $1 MILLION
TO BENEFIT DISADVANTAGED YOUTH
AT 42nd ANNUAL FRIENDS GALA
New York [May 16, 2018] –
More than 400
guests raised over $1 million
at the 42nd Annual
Inner-City Scholarship Fund Friends Gala on
Tuesday, May 8, at Cipriani 42nd
Street in Manhattan. Inner-City is the city’s
leading non-profit organization dedicated to
providing tuition assistance for low-income
students attending Catholic schools within the
Archdiocese of New York.
His Eminence, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan,
Archbishop of New York, and
Gala Chairs Colleen and Thomas Golden
attended the event, where
NBC Today Show’s
Savannah Guthrie
served as the Master of Ceremonies.
“With the end of the school year approaching, we
are constantly reminded of the importance of a
quality education,” said Susan George, Executive
Director of Inner-City Scholarship Fund. “I’m
honored to be with the people in this room,
especially Colleen and Thomas Golden, who are so
passionate about supporting Catholic education
for future generations.”
Catholic school student DeAlbert Shephard, from
All Hallows High School in the Bronx, gave a
moving speech about the teachers who have
supported him throughout his education,
especially when his mother suddenly passed away.
Because of his Inner-City scholarship, he has
gained leadership skills as the school’s
representative at the International Leadership
Conference in Dublin, as captain of the bowling
team and member of the Mock Trial Team. Through
his participation in the school’s Middle East
Intelligence Program, he is inspired to one day
become an Intelligence Analyst in the FBI.
In addition to dinner and dancing, guests
enjoyed a “42nd on 42nd”
performance by Cardinal Spellman High School in
the Bronx, Notre Dame School in Manhattan and
Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School in
Manhattan.
