Kristina Washer, a rising
environmental leader and passionate
advocate for global sustainability, left
an indelible mark through her tireless
volunteerism and scientific work, which
was cut short by her untimely passing at
the age of 30. A master’s student in
Environmental Engineering and Health at
Tufts University, Kristina combined
academic rigor with compassionate
service, channeling her expertise into
efforts that advanced environmental
justice and community health.
A proud native of Bedford,
Massachusetts, and a graduate of Holy
Cross, Kristina’s early research in
evolutionary biology laid the foundation
for a global scientific journey. Her
fieldwork spanned continents—from marine
research in the Turks and Caicos to a
Fulbright post in the Galápagos Islands,
and even a National Geographic
expedition in Mauritius. Whether
conducting site remediation,
coordinating hazardous waste cleanups,
or assessing occupational health risks,
Kristina brought scientific integrity
and empathy to each project.
Beyond her professional accomplishments,
Kristina's heart was firmly rooted in
service. She volunteered at wildlife
clinics, led educational initiatives in
both English and Spanish, and empowered
communities through environmental
education. She also worked as a
divemaster in Thailand, reflecting her
deep connection to marine ecosystems
and conservation.
Kristina’s work exemplifies the power of
interdisciplinary action, merging
research, education, and advocacy to
build a cleaner, healthier world. For
philanthropists and changemakers, her
life serves as a poignant reminder that
transformative impact often begins with
a spirit of service and a commitment to
science-based solutions.
