The Monaco Red Cross
began organising fund-raising events as soon as it was
founded in 1948 by Prince Louis II of Monaco. The first
Monaco Red Cross Ball was held that same year, with the
young Prince Rainier III presiding.
The Red Cross Ball in Monaco is one of the largest charity
galas in the world, bringing together the most famous and
prominent people, many of them from the ruling houses of
Europe.
The Ball is held every year and is the culmination of the
summer season
in Monaco.
Through this
fabulous ball, the Monaco Red Cross expresses its gratitude
towards its generous donors and pays tribute to the work it
has been able to carry out with the donations, which finance
its actions both locally
and internationally.
The artists who have
already taken centre stage at the Monaco Red Cross Gala in
the Salle des Etoiles include Maurice Chevalier, Ella
Fitzgerald, Sacha Distel, Joséphine Baker, Line Renaud,
Frank Sinatra, Julio Iglesias, Elton John, Stevie Wonder,
Lionel Richie, Anastacia and more recently Tom Jones, Joe
Cocker, Eros Ramazzotti and Bob Sinclar.
The ball is
traditionally opened by a prestigious auction. The guests
then proceed with dinner followed by a charity concert by
famous performers.
At midnight, H.S.H. Prince Albert II officially
announces the Ball open
and the guests are invited to the dance floor.
The traditional
fireworks then light up the Monaco sky, to the delight of
guests. This marks the close of a wonderful ball that still
inspires the dreams of so many
