National Dance
Institute’s 2023 Event of the Year, “RISE: Celebrating the
Life of Dr. Maya Angelou,” will bring together over 100
talented children from New York City public schools in a
vibrant performance of dance and live music honoring the
life and legacy of Dr. Maya Angelou. World-renowned as an
author, poet, civil rights activist, singer, and dancer,
Maya Angelou used her voice to inspire and uplift people
across the world. Her influence has spanned generations and
her stories continue to encourage us to recognize and
embrace the limitless potential within every person.
Directed by Bianca
Johnson, with soul-stirring narration by Toni
Blackman & Osyris Antham, “RISE”
will feature special performances by NDI Helen Stambler
Neuberger Artist-in-Residence LayeRhythm & Chrybaby
Cozie, as well as new and original works created by
NDI’s team of Choreographers and Musicians.
ASL Interpretation
will be provided for every performance of the NDI Event of
the Year.
