Pineapple-infused cooking demos by local chefs and bakers

Event will celebrate Florida’s 500th anniversary

Master of Ceremony is Virginia Sinicki of the KVJ
Morning Show of Wild 95.5

Boynton Beach, Florida - -- The pineapple fruit will have a starring role at the 8th Children & Parents Day set for Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 12 noon to 4pm. Sponsored by Target stores and presented by the non-profit Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History, Children & Parents Day is celebrating the pineapple fruit for National Nutrition Awareness Month and the 500th anniversary of Florida.  The Master of Ceremony is Virginia Sinicki, Morning Co-Host of the KVJ Show on Wild 95.5. Children & Parents Day will be held at the historic Boynton Woman’s Club in Boynton Beach, Florida.

The event will feature pineapple fruit-infused cooking demos, Make-Me-A-Pineapple kids cooking classes, pineapple-themed arts and crafts, souvenir photos in the pineapple patch, a personal appearance by the Pineapple Farmer Patty, entertainment, music and an all-you-can eat farm-to-table lunch.

Famed Chef Chrissy Benoit of The Little House will conduct a cooking demo and kids cooking class highlighting the use of the fresh pineapple fruit.  The cooking demo line-up also includes baker Bonnie Brown of Bonnie’s Best Bests; and Chef Phillip Herman of the Secret Garden Café.  Under the leadership of Chef Suzanne O’Neil of the South Tech Culinary Academy, her students will assist the chefs with the kitchen management, demos and kids cooking classes.

A specially designed pineapple fruit-shaped cake created by Pastry Chef Lara Fisher of Cakes by Lara will be unveiled at the Children & Parents Day and served for dessert at the event.

The all-you-can-eat farm-to-table healthy lunch is being catered by the Secret Garden Café with fresh produce for the Urban Farm and Target grocery store.

Kingston & Associates is sponsoring a significant donation of their Sugar Pine brand of pineapples. According to Kingston, their pineapples are high in Vitamin A and have four times more Vitamin C than other pineapple varieties. The pineapples are cholesterol free with low levels of sodium.  Kingston is one of the world’s largest producers of pineapples which are grown on their own farmland.  The farm-to-table lunch, cooking demos and kids cooking classes will feature the Kingston pineapples.

Pineapple fruit planting demos will be showcased by the Boynton Garden Club.

Pineapple-themed arts and crafts will be the fun interactive experience for the children and their families.  Some of the creative workshops will be conducted by local artists who include Rolando Chang Barrero of ActivistArtista, Barb Lentz of Art-Sea Living and Inge Behrens of CIB Art Gallery. Students from American Heritage School of Boca/Delray are the official student volunteers for the arts and craft stations.  And, the American Heritage National Honor Science Society is presenting a pineapple activity at Children & Parents Day.

The 8th annual Children & Parents Day is an official Community Event Partner for the 500th anniversary of the State of Florida, Viva Florida.  Pineapple fruit farming had a major historic impact during the agricultural development of the State of Florida.  Pineapple Farmer Patty will be making a personal appearance at the event and sharing the history of pineapple farming in Palm Beach County.  And, souvenir photos will be offered in the Pineapple Fruit Patch.
