Abilis Youth
Board Hosts 7th Annual Together We Shine Event on
February 28
Festive and
Inclusive Mardi Gras-Themed Event Features Music,
Dancing, Dinner for Abilis Community Members and Area
Teens
Abilis is
laying out the red carpet for its annual Together
We Shine formal
dance and dinner on Saturday,
February 28, 2026, from 530
p.m. to 7:30 p.m.,
at the First
Presbyterian Church in Greenwich,
when the Abilis
Youth Board will
host Abilis community members for this fun, festive and
inclusive event. Abilis is a nonprofit organization that
serves and supports more than 800 individuals with
disabilities and their families throughout Fairfield
County. Together We Shine is one of the highlights of
the year for the Abilis community!
This year’s
celebration features a Mardi Gras theme, complete
with everyone’s favorite red carpet entrance,
music, dancing, dinner and dessert. Attendees get
dressed up in semi-formal attire and dance the
night away! As an inclusive event for Abilis
community members of all abilities, the evening provides
an opportunity to share a night of music, fun and
dancing with local area high school students from the
Abilis Youth Board, creating a night of
connection, fun and celebration.
“Together We Shine is one of the most
anticipated events of the year for our Abilis community,”
said Amy Montimurro, CEO and president of Abilis.
“It’s an evening where individuals of all abilities come
together to feel celebrated, confident and connected. We are
especially grateful and inspired this year to see the
dedication of the Abilis Youth Board and volunteers who make
this night possible. Throughout the past 12 months our
Abilis Youth Board has been focused on this very special
event. Led by Virginia Blum, a special education
advocate, the Youth Board is made up of 40 students from 14
high schools throughout Fairfield and Westchester counties,
who have been tirelessly fundraising to make Together We
Shine an incredible event. They participated in our Walk/Run
for Abilis High School Challenge Cup, held successful
fundraisers within their school communities, ranging from
bake sales, specialty food sales, set up donation tables,
organized dress-down days (for schools with uniforms), and
worked at a Christmas Tree lot. They are really an
incredible group of students and we are so proud and
honored by all that they do to make Together We Shine the
most special evening of the year.”
Formal attire for the Abilis participants are
made possible through generous donations by the community,
who donate dresses and mens suits, sizes small through 3XL,
from now through February 20th. Donations
of formal attire are accepted at Abilis’ headquarters at 50
Glenville Street in Greenwich, Connecticut, Monday through
Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., from now through February 20,
2026.
