24th Havana Film Festival New York

The 24th HFFNY Honors Two of Cuba's Most Influential Filmmakers: Nicolás Guillén Landrián and Tomás Gutiérrez Alea

The NY Premiere of the Award-Winning Film A Wild Woman / La Mujer Salvaje by Cuban Director Alan Gonzalez opens the festival on April 12 at The Quad Cinema

A Week-Long Celebration Packed with Movie Premieres, Masterclasses, and Much More Showcasing Top Latinx Talent

WHAT: The 24th Havana Film Festival New York (HFFNY) returns to the Quad Cinema with an exceptional program of more than 30 films from across Iberoamerica and the Latinx Diaspora in their New York, U.S. and World premieres. Filmmakers from around the world will join us to introduce audiences to their stories, interpretations, and approaches to the art of making movies. Showcasing films from Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Costa Rica, Chile, Peru, Panama, the U.S. and more, HFFNY promises an exciting, in-depth view into the multiple perspectives that make up the expansive world of Ibero-American cinema.

WHEN: April 10-18, 2024

WHERE: Quad Cinema – 34 E 13th Street. NYC and special events at Hofstra University

This year's program promises an array of highlights, including:

·      Opening night on April 12 at the Quad Cinema will feature the premiere of "La Mujer Salvaje" (A Wild Woman), an all-Cuban production co-written by Alan González and Nuri Duarte, telling the compelling story of a mother's unwavering fight for her son's love.

·      The Unseen Gaze: A Retrospective of Nicolás Guillén Landrián, a significant restoration project unveiling the lost legacy of Cuba's pioneering black filmmaker, Nicolás Guillén Landrián. This restoration project sheds light on the forgotten contributions of Landrián while illuminating the dark realities that marginalized his work.

·      Through the Lens of Contradiction: A Tribute to Tomás Gutiérrez Alea's Iconoclastic Cinematic Chronicle of Cuban Society. The Most Comprehensive Showcase of the Legendary Cuban Filmmaker Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, Titón, to be Featured at the 24th Havana Film Festival New York. In partnership with the Cohen Collection.

·      The Havana Star Prize competition showcases the latest award-winning Latin American films across various categories such as Best Fiction Film, Director, Screenplay, Actor/Actress, and Documentary.

·      "Harmonies of the Americas: Celebrating Latin Music Legends, Past and Present," a vibrant homage to the rich tapestry of Latin music.

La Mujer Salvaje / A Wild Woman, starring the wonderful Lola Amores

WHY: HFFNY is the longest-running Latino Film Festival in NYC; it presents an annual film experience and cultural event that New Yorkers eagerly look forward to, premiering the latest Iberoamerican films by prominent and emerging cinema visionaries throughout the Diaspora. The festival offers an international rainbow of award-winning films, retrospectives, and panel discussions with notable local and international directors, actors, and producers.

HFFNY 2024 has a movie for everyone. A full program and festival line-up will be available at after March 4th. Stay tuned!

And just because a movie ends doesn’t mean the festival does, too! Join HFFNY at our post-screening fiestas and celebrate with the filmmakers in town.

HFFNY offers discounted ticket prices through its selection of Festival passes. It also advertises time-limited reduced-price sales for screenings and events on its social media pages. For more information, follow us on social media at @hffny and visit us at
