On The Town With Aubrey Reuben - December 14, 2019

On the Town With Aubrey Reuben
Where All the Stars Shine Brightly!
December 14, 2019

A delightful event took place at Caroline's on Broadway.
James Morgan  ( photo below ) and  Haley Swindal  ( photo below  were honored  at  Theater Resources Unlimited's TRU Love Benefit . The afternoon began with a VIP cocktail hour with delicious hors d'oeuvres, followed by a three course luncheon. A performance by many talented Broadway performers, including among others,  Constantine Maroulis  Sheldon Harnick  and  Jana Robbins , sang, and the awards were presented. It was one of the best afternoon event of the season.
Jagged Little Pill, lyrics by Alanis Morisette, music by Alanis Morisette and Glen Ballard, book by Diablo Cody, at the Broadhurst Theatre, is jukebox musical, based on the album of the same name as the title. A  large cast, directed by Diana Paulus tell the story of a wealthy four member family living in Connecticut. The father is addicted to pornography. The wife is addicted to drugs. The son has been accepted to Harvard. The adopted daughter is black, and is having a lesbian relationship with a white girl, who becomes angry when she find her sleeping with a white boy. A white girl is raped at a party. These are the six major characters, plus a large chorus, choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
It is a convoluted story. The band appears on stage. All the cast is fine, but the story is absurd. If one is a fan of Morisette's music and lyrics, this might be the show to see. I had never heard of Morisette before I saw the show, so I left the theater unimpressed.

I went to Columbus Library to see Funny Girl, by William Wyler. 1968. Barbra Streisand won an Oscar for her debut performance in film. In 1964 she won a Tony for her debut performance on Broadway in the same role as Fanny Brice. Her co-star in the film as Omar Sharif as her gambler husband. It is a wonderful film and every cast member is marvelous. Streisand is magnificent and memorable, Unfortunately, they do not make films like this today.
I went to10 Corso Como at 200 Front St to attend a Save Venice event, but there was another event happening at the same time, and by accident, I found myself at one of the best holiday parties I have ever attended. Most of the guests were Asian, from China and Korea,. It was a real estate company, and the President of the company was of Polish descent. Every person was lovely and charming, Well, I could not save Venice, but I had a marvelous time.
