On Thursday,
May 13, the
New York
Region of
the
American
Committee
for the
Weizmann
Institute of
Science
(ACWIS) held
a Women
of
Achievement
cocktail
reception
featuring
Professor
Nava Dekel
and tennis
legend
Billie Jean
King.
Held at the
Lotos
Club,
the event
also
featured
remarks from
Marshall
Levin,
Executive
Vice
President
and CEO of
ACWIS,
Ellen Merlo,
Chair of the
New York
Region's
Executive
Committee,
and Larry
Blumberg,
Chairman of
ACWIS.
Hosted by
author,
graphologist
and
philanthropist
Arlyn
Imberman,
the event
featured a
presentation
by Professor
Nava Dekel,
discussing
her research
in
fertility.
Specifically,
Dekel shared
her
discovery
that a
simple
biopsy of a
woman's
uterus
doubles the
success rate
for IVF
implantation.
As head of
the
Department
of
Biological
Regulation
at the
Weizmann
Institute of
Science,
Professor
Dekel has
paved the
path to a
better
understanding
of the way
female
hormones and
other
signals
influence
the
reproductive
system.
Later,
activist and
tennis
legend
Billie Jean
King spoke
about her
work
breaking
down
barriers for
women
through
sports. She
explained
that "like
the work
being done
at the
Weizmann
Institute"
she, too,
hopes to
contribute
to bettering
humanity and
improving
the lives of
women
everywhere.
