The UN Women
for Peace Association (UNWFPA) Annual Awards Luncheon, in
celebration of International Women’s Day, was held on March
4th 2016 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City
and honor four inspirational individuals and one very
deserving foundation:
Secretary-General H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon, received the Leadership Award;
their Patron, H.E. Mrs. Ban Soon-taek the Peace Award;
Eugenio López Alonso the International Philanthropy Award
(the first Latin American to receive an award from UNWFPA);
HRH Princess Camilla of Bourbon Two Sicilies the
Humanitarian Award; Founder Francine LeFrak accepted
the Achievement Award on behalf of the Same Sky Foundation.
The Luncheon Chair was Sana H. Sabbagh and the event’s
Special Envoy is Bushra Kyayat Jomaa. Uma Pemmaraju was once
again be the luncheon’s emcee.

All proceeds go directly to the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against
Women. The Fund, which aims to prevent and end violence
against women and girls, provides services and programs to
those affected by violence and supports the implementation
of laws and policies conducive to ending violence against
